Weddings with
Shane and Ethan

Your wedding day should sound as good as it feels. We're Shane and Ethan — a guitar and violin duo based in Burlington, Vermont, and we've been playing music together for over a decade. We bring warm, elegant live music to your ceremony and keep the energy going through cocktail hour with vocals, guitar, and violin. No backing tracks, no fuss — just two musicians who know each other's playing inside and out, reading the room and making your day feel effortless.

What We Do

Ceremony — instrumental duo

Beautiful acoustic guitar and violin instrumentals as your guests arrive, during the processional, and as the wedding party recesses. We'll work with you to choose pieces that feel right — whether that's a classical standard, a folk melody, or an instrumental arrangement of a song that means something to you two.

Cocktail hour — duo with vocals

Once the ceremony wraps, we shift gears. Shane steps up on vocals and guitar while Ethan adds violin and harmonies. Think laid-back covers that people actually know and love — from Van Morrison and The Beatles to Jack Johnson and John Mayer — played at the perfect volume for conversation, clinking glasses, and the best kind of mingling.

One duo, one seamless flow

Because we handle both ceremony and cocktail hour, there's no awkward transition, no coordinating between separate vendors. We set up once, we're already there, and the music just keeps going.

Kind Words

"Shane Murley Band played for our wedding. The entire night all we heard from our guests was that this was the best band they'd ever seen. The dance floor was packed the entire night. The band did a phenomenal job, read the crowd all night and kept the party rolling. Do yourself a favor and go with the Shane Murley Band for your event!" — Marie Gray
"We wanted the whole package — ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception — and we were so happy with how it all turned out. Over a year later, we still have people telling us what a great wedding we had and we know it had so much to do with the band! I will always be forever grateful for such great guys playing at such a special time in our lives." - Sally L.
"I loved hearing you play us in to the ceremony. I loved seeing all of our family and loved ones seated listening to your music and taking in the leaves and the beauty of the moment… which you helped create. Thank you very much for playing for us and making our kids' wedding that much more special!"
— Mother of the bride

"Hiring the Shane Murley Band was the easiest and best decision I made for my wedding. I asked them to play an Elvis tune while my Dad walked me down the aisle in a less 'Elvis' way — they killed it! Their style and sound is perfect for weddings. Their flexibility and knowledge of how songs would sound best is quite impressive. I've received many compliments from my guests since the wedding." -Kori C.

Common Questions

What kind of music do you play?

For ceremonies, we play instrumental arrangements — anything from Pachelbel's Canon to an acoustic version of your favorite song. For cocktail hour, we cover a wide range: Americana, folk, classic rock, pop, soul, and jazz standards. We're always happy to learn a special request if it's meaningful to you.

Can you learn a specific song for our ceremony?

Absolutely. We love doing this. Give us a few weeks' notice and we'll put together an arrangement that fits the guitar-and-violin sound.

How long do you typically play?

A typical booking is about 30 minutes of prelude and ceremony music, plus 60–90 minutes of cocktail hour. We're flexible and happy to tailor it to your schedule.

Do you bring your own sound equipment?

Yes. We bring a clean, simple PA setup that works for both intimate outdoor ceremonies and larger indoor venues. Your guests will hear every note without it ever feeling too loud.

Where do you play?

We're based in Burlington, Vermont, and play weddings across the state and into neighboring areas. We've played barns, backyards, lakeside estates, and everything in between.

What about reception or dinner music?

Our sweet spot is ceremony and cocktail hour, but if you're looking for a bigger sound for the reception, the Shane Murley Band can scale up to a full band. Just ask and we'll figure out what works.
